Officer Joe Jasany Honors the Twinsburg Public Library

This week Officer Joe Jasany presented me with a certificate of appreciation for our staff's participation in the annual Toys for Tots campaign. In December, the library waived over $4,000 in fines for our generous patrons who donated new toys for the Toys for Tots campaign in conjunction with the U.S. Marines and the Twinsburg Police DARE program.

Special thanks go out to our Circulation Staff, Rick Smith, and all our Library patrons who donated a record number of toys for area children.

Employee of the Year

Susan Grimes has a sunny disposition under most situations. She is always willing to do her part. Whenever there are items that need attending to – she takes care of them A.S.A.P. She is always willing to help other departments. She is always ready and willing to do the job and do it right.

She is always enthusiastic, always approachable, always friendly, always looks and acts professional. She presents a positive image of our library at all times.

Susan is continually proving how dedicated and competent she is. Every morning the pull list is printed, waiting for staff. She is amazingly organized so that whenever one of us asks for a document, she has it ready and printed. Whenever we need to have information, we can always rely on Susan.

Susan’s efficiency and willingness to help others are exemplary traits that make her an excellent candidate for employee of the year. And what would a day at TPL be like without her wonderful laugh?

Kindle Hybrid?

With Amazon's acquisition of Audible.com Brad Stone speculates, "What comes after that? How about a service that allows you to seamlessly switch from reading a book on your digital device to listening to the same book read aloud as you get in the car, or if your eyes are tired, or if you simply want to hear a crucial scene acted out? And then to switch back to the printed page?"

For those few who have a Kindle already check out this Site for free Ebooks.

Who Needs Libraries?

The media reports almost weekly about the demise of libraries, but many American Libraries are experiencing the opposite. Our circulation of library materials for the month of January 2008 was just short of 100,000.

To find out what is really happening in libraries listen to this program produced by Richard Paul for Soundprint as part of their series on education and technology. It is funded in part by the U.S. Department of Education.
