February issue of TPL Magazine

Writers' Retreat

The Twinsburg Public Library will host a Writers’ Retreat on Saturday, February 16th,from 9:30am to 3:30pm. The morning session will open with Annette Dashofy, author of “A Signature in Blood,” a short story that was a 2007 Derringer Award finalist, and the novel Horse of a Different Killer. Annette will speak about finding an agent. Next,
Chagrin Falls author Sandy Philipson will discuss her experiences writing and publishing books for children. Her latest is Forever Home.

The authors will remain on hand for the afternoon session, a roundtable critique of participating writers’ work. Registrants are invited to send their short stories and poetry to Cari Dubiel, reference librarian, at cdubiel@twinsburglibrary.org, to be considered for a critique. Documents may be sent as attachments in Microsoft Word or Open Office.

This event is free, sponsored by the Friends of the Twinsburg Public Library. There will be an hour break for lunch. Participants may bring lunch, leave the library, or purchase an optional boxed lunch from Mavis Winkle’s Irish Pub for $7.50. Registration is required. Friends' Book Sale

The Friends' Book Sale is Saturday, February 9th, from 10 am to 4 pm. Members may come to the sale at 9:30 am. Good Valentine's Day gift ideas. Blow out on VHS tapes--.25 each, 5/$1.00. Books on cassette tape--.10 each or 100/$8.00. Special section of books and tapes on parenting. Very reasonably priced Premium Books. Paperbacks on special at 5 and 10 cents each. Driver Safety Program Offered

Tune up your driving skills in this four-part course offered at 2 p.m. each Saturday in February. AARP certified instructor Rosa Moore will lead this video-enhanced class. Those who complete the course may qualify for an insurance discount. Here's what you'll learn:

* Defensive driving techniques and new rules of the road

* How to adjust to age-related changes

* How to deal with aggressive drivers and problem situations

* How medications may affect driving

* How to minimize driving distractions

There is a $10 fee for the class, payable to the instructor at the first session. To register call (330) 425-4268 ext. 2. Registrants should plan to attend all four sessions.

PRIDE AND PREJUDICE @ THE LIBRARY


The classic film of Austen's Pride and Prejudice starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier will be shown on the big screen at 3 p.m. on Monday, February 25. Immediately preceding the movie, at 2 p.m., we will be discussing the book. Group leader Powell Woods will discuss why Jane Austen is still a bestselling author today. Anime Club
This week the Anime Club will start watching the "Lain, Serial Experiments" series. The series will continue through Feb. 21. The Anime Club meets Thursdays from 2:30 to 5:00 pm.

Chick Flicks
This Friday from 2:30 to 5:00 our Chick Flick will be the movie "Jane Eyre part 2."

Hairspray Party
Join us for this happenin' good time February 22nd from 7:00 to 10:00. There will be a screening of the new movie "Hairspray" and guests are encouraged to dress as their favorite character or in 60's attire. Ages 10 and up are welcome. Registration begins January 28th. Call 330-425-4268 ext. 6.
