Grant Raising Program

The library provides occasional classes to encourage economic
development, and to assist and encourage use of the library’s databases
& resources. “Before You Seek a Grant: A Checklist for New Nonprofits”
will be presented on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm.
This free program is suggested for new nonprofits or those thinking
about forming one. David Holmes, Regional Training Coordinator at the
Foundation, will explain why good proposals alone are not sufficient for
successful foundation fundraising. You must have the characteristics of
successful nonprofits before you can approach foundations for funding.
This class employs a step-by-step checklist approach to assist community
groups or new nonprofits to determine their readiness to approach
foundations for funding.
To register, call 330-425-4268 ext. 2 or register online at

Memorial Day Parade

Thank you to staff members Elizabeth Stefanov, Tracey Harbin, Lori Holmes and her family and the many families that joined me to represent the Library during the annual Twinsburg Memorial Day Parade. The library invited families to decorate wagons, bikes and pets. The parade is organized each year by VFW Post 4929, led by our friend Officer Joe Jasany, and the Ladies Auxiliary. It was an honor to walk in memory of those who have served and are serving our country. Representative Brian Williams was on hand, as were our Mayor Katherine Procop, city council members, Township Trustees, Scouts, the High School Band, baseball teams and most importantly the veterans . The highlight of this Twinsburg tradition was the amazing flyover by the C-130 Hercules Transport, that came thundering right over the path of the parade. If you haven't attended this very special ceremony yet, make sure to be there next year, and we hope to have you walk with us! Laura Leonard

Circulation Up 11% for the Year

Library use is up significantly this year. Circulation of library materials in April 2008 was 8,025 more than that in April 2007. We had over 30,000 visitors during the month, with 4,007 using our library computers, with 3,387 attending library programs, and 1,606 more using our meeting rooms.

Staff members have been busy constructing a new Children's Place website and working on our Olympic themed Summer Reading Clubs. We've purchased an application that will allow patrons to register for the reading clubs and update their reading records online from home or in the library. Staff members and volunteers will also be available to give personal assistance at all our help desks.

Most public service staff members have been trained this past month on using the new sound system acquired with the assistance of our Friends of the Library. The new system will allow more than one speaker to use a microphone as well as providing sound in all three meeting rooms, should two or three different programs be scheduled at the same time.
